Joshua Kimmich kicked off the 2022/23 Bundesliga season with a stroke of genius when he beat Kevin Trapp in the fifth minute of the opening game at Eintracht Frankfurt. Instead of crossing as expected from 25 yards out on the right, the 27-year-old went for the near post to deceive the Frankfurt goalkeeper. There could hardly have been a better way of opening the 60th Bundesliga season from a Bayern perspective.
Tight victory for Kimmich
Fans of the record champions agreed as they voted for the Germany international as the winner of the FC Bayern Goal of the Month for August. Kimmich topped the standings with 30.7% of the votes, but it was tight. He came just narrowly ahead of Mathys Tel's strike in the DFB Cup against Viktoria Köln (30.6%) as the 17-year-old earned his place as the youngest goalscorer in Bayern's professional history. Third place went to Jamal Musiala for his goal in the 2-0 win over Wolfsburg (22.9%).
