Past encounters between these two clubs have always provided drama – and now there'll be a new edition. On 9 September, FC Bayern Legends will take on Chelsea Legends in a charity match at London's Stamford Bridge. The two teams will recall unforgettable clashes from the past such as the Finale dahoam in 2012 or Munich's victory in the UEFA Super Cup in Prague a year later.
Legends of Europe
The game, named 'Legends of Europe', will see many great players in the history of the Reds and the Blues come together, aiming to continue the story of this legendary fixture. The Bayern team will feature the likes of Giovane Élber and Claudio Pizarro, whose long career included a spell at Chelsea in the 2007/08 season alongside his many years with the German record champions. For the West London side, John Terry, Gianfranco Zola, Carlo Cudicini, Michael Essien and Claude Makélélé have already signed up, while Roberto Di Matteo will coach the team. The final squads are still to be confirmed.
All proceeds from the match will go to charitable causes and will be divided equally between the Chelsea Foundation and the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. The organisation is dedicated to the fight against cancer and recently helped former Chelsea player and Legends coach, Gianluca Vialli, who died from cancer at the start of this year.
