Spain defeat Croatia on penalties
The UEFA Nations League final in Rotterdam was won by the narrowest of margins, with Spain lifting the trophy for the first time after beating Josip Stani šić's Croatia 5-4 on penalties. Neither team had managed to find the net in 120 minutes of open play, meaning it all came down to spot kicks. Daniel Carvajal's Panenka - a chip into the centre of the goal - clinched the 5-4 win and gave Spain their first title in 11 years. The Croatian side, including Josip Stanišić, who came off the bench after 111 minutes, went away empty-handed.
Netherlands miss out on third place
The Netherlands and Italy played out a lively encounter in Enschede on Sunday afternoon. Federico Dimarco (6') and Davide Frattesi (20') lost no time in giving the reigning European champions the lead, with Steven Bergwijn (68') pulling one back for the Dutch after the break. Federico Chiesa (74') extended the lead for Roberto Mancini's side, while Georginio Wijnaldum (89') only managed to make the final result look a bit more respectable. Bayern defender Daley Blind watched the game from the bench.
