Thomas Müller: 'That extra something in our calendar'

FC Bayern have been handed a very exciting group in this season’s Champions League. The six-time European champions have been paired in Group A with Manchester United, Copenhagen and Galatasaray after the draw on Thursday in Monaco. fcbayern.com rounds up the reaction from Bayern players and officials…

Reaction to the Champions League draw

Jan-Christian Dreesen: “We’re all very much looking forward to these huge nights of football. The Champions League is and remains the pinnacle of club football. It was clear beforehand that there were some top teams waiting, and now we’ve got an interesting group with attractive opposition. Manchester United are one of European football’s big names, with whom we’ve shared some historic encounters. Galatasaray and Copenhagen came through qualifying, but we know about their strengths. Since winning the title in Lisbon in 2020, we’ve been knocked out three times in the quarter-finals. It’s our great wish to go further again this season, but first we need to come through Group A.”

Andreas Jung (board member for marketing): “I’m confident we can progress, but we have to take every game seriously. We’ve had some exciting encounters before with Manchester United. Everyone remembers the game in 1999. Copenhagen are double winners in Denmark, a strong team. The atmosphere at Galatasaray will obviously be special. It‘ll also be an exciting game in Munich.”

Thomas Tuchel: “Every opponent represents a challenge in the Champions League, which we take on with great desire and dedication. Manchester United, Copenhagen and Galatasaray are extremely appealing group opponents for the team and fans. We’re excited and can’t wait to get going on the European stage soon.”

Thomas Müller: “We’re excited that the Champions League is starting again. We’ve got some big clashes with three clubs from top cities. Manchester United are an entity in world football. They have a former Bayern reserves coach in Erik ten Hag. Copenhagen and Galatasaray have exciting teams. Those midweek games are that extra something in our calendar, so let’s go!”

Kingsley Coman: “We’re finally getting going again. I can hardly wait to play in the Champions League again. I think we’ve been drawn into a very nice group where we have a good chance of progressing. I personally haven’t played in any of those three stadiums yet and am looking forward to the journeys and the new experiences.”

Konrad Laimer: “Big excitement about playing with Bayern in the Champions League and especially about the special atmosphere at the Allianz Arena. I think the draw is very exciting, especially because I’ve never played against any of the three teams before. I’m looking forward to things finally getting going and am very confident we will go far.”
