FC Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen played out a humdinger of a 2-2 draw on Friday, befitting their top-two standing in the Bundesliga. "It looked like luck was on our side at the end, but then the penalty decision went against us," commented head coach Thomas Tuchel after Bayern conceded an injury-time equaliser from the spot. "It always hurts when you concede such a late goal. It was a fair result on the balance of play, but of course we wanted all three points," added Konrad Laimer. fcbayern.com rounds up the reaction...
Reaction to the home draw with Leverkusen
Thomas Tuchel: "We played well for the first 20 minutes, where we could have given ourselves daylight. The next 20 minutes were poor and littered with errors. The five minutes before the break were good again and resulted in some big chances. Again in the second half, there were times where we had more control and then less. It looked like luck was on our side at the end, but then the penalty decision went against us. We struggled to stay compact. We need more bite, and to throw ourselves into the individual battles."
Thomas Müller: "The 2-2 draw is the right result. We had to score again before the break, Harry Kane had the chance to make it 2-1. After that we had luck and Ulle [Sven Ulreich] to thank for not going behind."
Konrad Laimer: "It always hurts when you concede such a late goal. It was a fair result on the balance of play, but of course we wanted all three points. We made a great start, had a lot of the ball and created good chances. After the first 20 minutes, we struggled to make an impact going forward. Leverkusen are a top side with really good individuals and a good game plan. We're looking forward to an exciting season ahead."
Reaction from the Leverkusen camp
Xabi Alonso (head coach): "It was an intense game with plenty of chances at both ends. The draw is a good result for us. We weren't in the game at the start, but then made a few minor changes. We were better in possession after that and had chances. It was calmer in the second half, we played with control. We didn't defend well for Bayern's second goal, but we fought until the end."
Granit Xhaka (midfielder): "We didn't start well, gave the ball away unnecessarily and conceded from a set-piece. However, to twice come from behind in Munich deserves respect. We played well overall, but we have to keep working hard. Then we'll see where we're at."
Jonas Hofmann (midfielder): "It was high intensity and played at a high level. It was a real Friday night spectacle for the fans. Both teams fulfilled expectations. There was nothing between us, both teams had chances and can be happy with the draw, I think."
