After their success away to Copenhagen in the Champions League (2-1), FC Bayern are looking to continue their pursuit of the top spot in the Bundesliga against SC Freiburg on Sunday (17:30 CEST). Two points currently separate the still unbeaten German record champions from leaders Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Check out our facts and stats on the Matchday 7 game to find out what factors suggest Thomas Tuchel's side will win at home for the third time in a row.
Strong home record against Freiburg
In 23 home games against Freiburg in the Bundesliga, FC Bayern have yet to suffer a defeat (20 wins). There's just one other team against whom their home record is even more positive: FCB have also never lost to VfL Wolfsburg in 27 home games in the German top flight (25 wins). The men from Munich should be on their guard, however, as they went down 2-1 to the Breisgau side in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup last season.
The dreaded 7th game
For the fourth time in the past five Bundesliga seasons, FC Bayern have remained unbeaten on the first six matchdays - but in 2019/20, 2021/22 and 2022/23, the first defeat came on Matchday seven. Moreover, they've had just one Matchday 7 win in the past seven seasons, a trend that Jamal Musiala and Co. will be looking to buck on Sunday.
Goals (all but) guaranteed
Wherever you see the name FC Bayern, you can usually find plenty of goals. Since the start of last season, FCB have failed to score on just one accasion - the seventh matchday of that campaign, when they went down to a single goal at Augsburg. But in that same period, the visitors, who are currently eighth in the league with ten points, have gone the most games without conceding. So who will prevail on Sunday evening? The strong FCB attack led by Harry Kane or the SC defence led by Matthias Ginter?
Woodwork experts
On Sunday, the two sides who have struck the post or crossbar most often meet at the Allianz Arena. Freiburg head the rankings after hitting woodwork six times, followed by the champions in second place (five). This statistic might well also have something to do with some poor finishing, but it certainly underlines the fact that both teams are attack-minded. So the fans can certainly look forward to an interesting clash between the Champions League and Europa League participants.
In-form duo
In the comeback at Leipzig last weekend, which ended in a 2-2 draw after being 2-0 down, Harry Kane and Leroy Sané were the two players responsible for the goals. The two skilful attackers are already showing their class at this early stage of the season - something the stats also underline. Centre-forward Kane has already scored eight goals after six Bundesliga matches - something only previously achieved at FC Bayern by Miroslav Klose in 2007.
The industrious Sané has already racked up five goals in his first six games - something he's never done before in an entire Bundesliga Hinrunde. Against Christian Streich's side, the 27-year-old could now score in his third consecutive Bundesliga match, and it wouldn't be a stretch for him: No other Bundesliga player has been as efficient as the FC Bayern number ten this season. From Sané's five big chances so far, the ball has landed in the back of the net five times.
