Facts from Bayern’s Champions League win in Copenhagen

Thomas Müller demonstrated in Tuesday’s 2-1 win away at Copenhagen just how much experience he has gained from his now 144 Champions League appearances. Surrounded by three opponents, he shielded the ball before laying it off to fellow substitute Mathys Tel in a better position to net the winner for Bayern in Denmark.

Magnificent Müller, Champions League legend

With this one moment of brilliance, the 34-year-old played a major role in ensuring his 101st victory with Bayern in Europe’s elite club competition. The Bavarian original has now drawn level with Spain's Iker Casillas, with only Cristiano Ronaldo (115) still ahead of him. And that wasn’t the only stunning stat posted by Bayern on the evening.

Bayern set new record

The victory at Copenhagen means Bayern have continued their winning streak in the Champions League group stage. The men from Munich not only extended their own record run of 15 group-stage victories in a row, but also set another new best-mark: FCB are now undefeated in 18 away games in the Champions League group stage (16 wins, two draws) and have thus surpassed the previous record set by Barcelona (17 from November 2006 to October 2012).

Tel leads the way

After coming on in the 77th minute, Tel scored the winning goal six minutes later. Once again, the French teenager hit the ground running in Copenhagen and has now scored nine goals off the bench since the start of last season, comfortably the best for FC Bayern in this period.

Bayern on course again

Bayern lead Group A with six points after two matchdays and are once again on course for the knockout stage. Starting well has become routine for Germany’s record champions. It’s now the fifth year in a row that FCB have won both their first two games of a Champions League group stage. The last time that didn’t happen was in 2018/19, when they only had four points from two.
