Two Bayern players were in action for their national teams on Monday evening. With Konrad Laimer captaining the side, Austria confirmed their qualification for next summer’s Euros in Germany, while Frans Krätzig featured for Germany’s U20s. fcbayern.com rounds up Monday’s results.
Austria secure qualification in Azerbaijan
A 1-0 win against Azerbaijan in Baku was enough for Laimer and Austria to confirm their place at Euro 2024 in Germany. The 26-year-old led his country out as captain and played the full 90 minutes. Ralf Rangnick’s side struggled for long periods, with Laimer lobbing an effort wide on 18 minutes. However, ex-Bayern man Marcel Sabitzer broke the deadlock in front of 7,000 fans with a penalty just after half-time to seal all three points.
The victory means Austria can no longer be displaced from the top of Group F and will compete at the Euros finals in 2024 for the fourth time in their history after 2008, 2016 and 2020. Their next fixtures in November include a friendly against Germany in Vienna on 21 November in the final international match of the year.
Germany U20s beat Czechs
Krätzig enjoyed a 4-2 with Germany’s U20s against the Czech Republic. The 20-year-old started the game before going off after 87 minutes. The goals for Hannes Wolf’s side came from former Bayern man Armindo Sieb, as well as Mika Baur (two) and Muhammed Damar. Denis Alijagic and a Damar own goal provided the Czechs with their strikes. Now on a run of four games without defeat, the U20s next play against Romania and England in November.
