The task following the disappointing cup exit during the week in Saarbrücken was clear. “Now, we have to show a reaction. We’re travelling to Dortmund to win, despite all our difficulties,“ coach Thomas Tuchel explained, outlining the attitude he wanted to see in Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund. And Bayern delivered in exceptional fashion!
Bayern deliver in Dortmund
Right from the start, the men from Munich left no shadow of a doubt who would leave the pitch as winners at Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park. Along the way, Bayern gace an outstanding overall team performance. The record champions led 2-0 after only nine minutes, following goals by Dayot Upamecano (4) and Harry Kane (9). When Dortmund, urged on by their boisterous support, went all-in in the second half, Bayern continued to remain level-headed. Kane all but ended the game with the third after 72 minutes and even followed up with another goal in added time. 4-0 away to Borussia Dortmund – a real triumph.
Dreesen: Impressive and makes me happy
“Obviously, you can sense a great relief. It's always a special game. The fact the team showed this kind of a reaction is impressive and makes me very happy,” praised CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen following the match. “This was an absolute top reaction. The team deserves great praise. We made good decisions and were able to play to our strengths time and again. It’s extremely difficult to win here. We’re very happy,” coach Tuchel commented with satisfaction.

Strong defence, clinical attack
In defence, Bayern were able to rely on a strong unit protecting Manuel Neuer, who made a fine save from Marco Reus on 56 minutes with the score still 2-0. Minjae Kim, who won countless important individual duels and had the most contacts of all the Bayern players (97), and Upamecano, who time and again solved dangerous situations with great anticipation, including a hand in Bayern's second goal. Up front, Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala and Kingsley Coman provided great agility once more and used their speed advantages to pull the BVB defence to and fro.
Clinical finisher Kane
And then, of course, Bayern had their ice-cold spearhead: Harry Kane scored what is already his third hat-trick in the record champions’ colours. Overall, the England captain has now scored 15 goals this season, making him the league's top scorer and setting a new record for a player competing in his first ten Bundesliga games. “We were very concentrated, focused and efficient. We created many chances and deserved to win,“ Tuchel summarised.
Bayern's outstanding mentality on this evening in Dortmund was embodied by Leon Goretzka and Upamecano in particular. Following recent absences due to injury, both returned to the starting formation, led by example and made vital contributions to the important away win. “For me, this is the most awesome away game. This is simply fun. I’ve never lost here as a Bayern player,” said Goretzka. All in all, it was a very successful Bayern evening in Dortmund, explained CEO Dreesen: “We made a statement. We’re there when it counts.” Long may it continue.
