Sacha Boey had a wide smile on his face as he took to the pitch at Säbener Straße for the first time at 10:32 on Tuesday morning alongside Mathys Tel, who he knows from their time together at Rennes, and greeted head coach Thomas Tuchel with a handshake. His attitude was perfect for the atmosphere at Bayern’s training ground, as fans in attendance welcomed the new right-back in bright sunshine with chants of “Sacha Boey! Sacha Boey!”.
Tuchel also welcomed the new defender, who will wear the number 23 after signing from Galatasaray, as he gathered the squad, who gave their newest teammate a round of applause. After running the traditional gauntlet between his new colleagues and a flick on the ear from the likes of Thomas Müller, Boey then got down to business on the pitch. The 80-minute session included a number of different match scenarios with small goals and several drills. Afterwards, the Frenchman and the rest of the squad took plenty of time for autographs and selfies with the crowd at Säbener Straße.
Boey adds to Bayern’s squad
Boey increases Tuchel’s options for the coming weeks and months. The team is currently without Dayot Upamecano (hamstring), Konrad Laimer (calf), Joshua Kimmich (shoulder), Kingsley Coman (MCL), Serge Gnabry (muscular), Bouna Sarr (ACL), Daniel Peretz (knee) and Tarek Buchmann (muscular), while Minjae Kim and Noussair Mazraoui are still competing at the Asian Cup and Africa Cup of Nations respectively.
Open training before Gladbach game
After Saturday’s important 3-2 win away at Augsburg and Sunday’s fan club visits, the team had Monday off before turning their attentions to this weekend’s Bundesliga game at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. Bayern have the chance to make up the two-point gap on league leaders Bayer Leverkusen after Xabi Alonso’s side were held to a goalless draw by Gladbach last time out.
Boey will be officially unveiled after training:
