When FC Bayern welcome SV Werder Bremen to the Allianz Arena on Sunday afternoon (15:30 CET), it will be the 114th meeting of these two Bundesliga stalwarts in the competition. No other fixture has taken place as often in the German top flight. fcbayern.com has compliled the other facts and figures you need to know ahead of the next edition.
Clear direction in record match
The recent history of this clash is very one-sided: since a 5-2 defeat to the north Germans in September 2008, Bayern are unbeaten in 28 Bundesliga games (W24 D4) against Bremen – an unparalleled run in the divison. In their last 24 league encounters, the German record champions have dropped points just once, drawing 1-1 in Munich in November 2020.
Can't go wrong with Müller and Kimmich
Two Bayern players boast a quite incredible record against the Green-Whites. Thomas Müller has never lost in 25 Bundesliga matches against Werder (W22 D3), while Joshua Kimmich has won all 14 of his Bundesliga encounters with SVW. Their boss is a Bremen expert too: Thomas Tuchel has enjoyed more wins against Bremen (10) than against any other club as a first-team coach. With eight wins in succession, the 50-year-old also boasts the longest winning run for a coach against Bremen in the history of the competition.
Fortress Allianz Arena
Home is where the heart is for Bayern, who have taken 22 points from a possible 24 in front of their own crowd this season. The only time they failed to collect maximum points was the 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen on Matchday 3. The current six-match winning streak at the Allianz Arena is the Munich men's longest in almost two and a half years (April to September 2021, also six in a row). What's more, the Reds scored for the 65th Bundesliga home game in a row in the 3-0 win over Hoffenheim last weekend, setting a new record for the longest scoring run at home in the top flight.
Bremen struggling on the road
Now the team with the best home record in the league host the side with the poorest away record. Along with Mainz, Bremen were the only team who didn't win a single away game in the Hinrunde (first half of the season). Just three points from eight away outings this season is their worst showing on the road in 46 years – in 1977/78 it was just one point at this stage. Going back to last season, Werder are without a win in 11 league games away from home (D3 L8).
The start of a success story
The opening match of this Bundesliga season saw Harry Kane net his first goal as a Bayern player. Now, after 16 games in the competition, the Englishman is on 22 goals, equalling Robert Lewandowski's record for the first half of the season from 2020/21. Three days after the meeting with Bremen, Kane has the chance to break that record in the rearranged match against Union Berlin.
