All good things come in threes: FC Bayern are looking to claim a third consecutive win in all competitions when they travel to SV Darmstadt 98 on Saturday (kick-off 15:30 CET). The Bavarians want to take the momentum from their recent successes into the clash with the bottom club and pick up three points in their final game before the international break. Here are the facts on the match against the promoted side.
Tenth meeting with Lilies
Bayern have had good experiences with Darmstadt in the German top flight thus far. The Reds have won eight of the nine meetings, only drawing 1-1 in the first in November 1978. That equates to a points average of 2.8 per game, FCB's highest against a team who they've played at least five times in the Bundesliga.
Bayern formidable against basement boys
Darmstadt currently prop up the table with 13 points after 25 matchdays. Bayern have won each of their last 16 games against teams in 18th place. The last time they failed to do so was a 0-0 draw against Hamburger SV in September 2014.
Best attack in the Bundesliga
No team have scored more goals than Bayern's 73 in the current Bundesliga campaign. On the other hand, the Darmstadt goalkeeper has had to pick the ball out of the net the most times with 60 goals conceded. Thomas Müller and Co will be hoping to prove their accuracy again at the Böllenfalltor on Saturday.
Good memories of reverse fixture
Second-placed Bayern should travel with confidence after thrashing Mainz 05 8-1 last time out. That was the second time this season they've scored eight goals after the 8-0 win in the reverse fixture against Darmstadt – only Mönchengladbach (1967/68) and Duisburg (1965/66) have previously managed to score eight or more goals in two games. With the 7-0 victory against Bochum too, Thomas Tuchel's side have become the first team ever to win three matches by a margin of seven or more goals within one season.
Musiala in form
With two assists and one goal, Jamal Musiala was one of the stars of the exhibition display against Mainz. It was the second time in the 21-year-old's career that he's registered three goal involvements in a Bundesliga match (after Leverkusen in September 2022). The attacker has been involved in at least one goal in each of the last four league games and will be keen to keep that run going in Hesse.
Kane going from record to record
Top goalscorer Harry Kane was also on target in the last match – three times, no less. The English ace is now on 30 Bundesliga goals. Only once in the history of the German top flight has a player scored as many goals in his debut season: Uwe Seeler after the end of the 1963/64 campaign. Kane has already equalled his personal league record, as his best haul for Tottenham in the English Premier League also stands at 30 goals. The 30-year-old is also continuing to chase down Robert Lewandowski's record of 41 goals in a Bundesliga season.
