It's the youngest Bundesliga club up against the oldest: FC Bayern are the only team to have played in Germany's top flight continuously since 1965 and now face new boys Heidenheim for the first time on Saturday (15.30 CEST). That means the club with the most Bundesliga games (2,003) will face the one with the fewest appearances in the top flight (27). fcbayern.com has put together all the key facts relating to the match for you.
Premiere in Heidenheim
FC Bayern Munich are heading to 1. FC Heidenheim for the first time for a competitive match. The previous two clashes at the Allianz Arena were high-scoring affairs, with the Munich side coming out on top both times: In April 2019, FCB prevailed 5-4 in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup and most recently, in the Bundesliga Hinrunde, the match finished 4-2 for Thomas Tuchel's side.
Bayern impressive against debutants
FC Bayern have won 17 of their last 18 Bundesliga games against teams who, like Heidenheim, were playing their maiden season in the Bundesliga. Only in the 2-2 draw at TSG Hoffenheim in May 2009 did the Munich men drop points to a newly promoted side during this period. The last time the Reds lost against Bundesliga debutants was a 1-0 defeat in October 2000 at FC Energie Cottbus. In general, Bayern have always managed to live up to their role as favourites and have been victorious in the last eight Bundesliga meetings with newly promoted teams.
Thomas Müller on the verge of his next milestone
What a milestone! Thomas Müller could make his 700th appearance in a competitive match for FC Bayern's first team at Heidenheim - only Sepp Maier (709) has made more for the German record champions than the 34-year-old forward.
Who can reverse the trend?
The 2-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund was FC Bayern's fifth league defeat of the season, the same number as in the whole of the previous campaign. Thomas Tuchel's players will be keen to avoid another defeat in the season run-in - and Heidenheim could be just the opponents they need: Frank Schmidt's team have won just one of their last 11 Bundesliga games (seven draws, three defeats) - a 2-1 at SV Werder Bremen in mid-February.
