Into quarter-finals: Upamecano and France keep clean sheet

Dayot Upamecano and Kingsley Coman are through to the quarter-finals of EURO 2024 in Germany with France, who beat neighbours Belgium 1-0 on Monday evening in Düsseldorf. Randal Kolo Muani forced Jan Vertonghen into an own goal in the 85th minute, which was enough to see Les Bleus into the last eight. Bayern defender Upamecano helped the 2018 world champions to keep a clean sheet, while winger Coman was an unused substitute.

Fourth game, third clean sheet: Dayot Upamecano and France kept Romelu Lukaku and Belgium at bay.

After a first half that was lacking in chances, the French improved in the second half, with Marcus Thuram (49th minute) and Kylian Mbappé (53'/56') both missing opportunities to break the deadlock. Belgium mostly stood back but almost struck the killer blow through Kevin De Bruyne in the 83rd minute – the Red Devils' captain's finish wasn't accurate enough, though. Then at the other end, Kolo Muani's shot on the turn inside the penalty area went off Vertonghen's knee and into the net.

France now face Portugal in the quarter-finals in Hamburg on Friday.

Harry Kane and England are also in the quarters:
