A perfect start to the Olympics for Michael Olise. Thanks to a goal and an assist from FC Bayern's new signing, the French team got off to the best possible start to the home games. In the 3-0 (0-0) win against the USA in Marseille, the forward scored the Équipe Tricolore's second goal when he curled the ball into the bottom left-hand corner from the right-hand corner of the box in the 69th minute. The 22-year-old had already set up Alexandre Lacazette's opening goal (61st minute) and Loïc Badé (85th minute) wrapped things up with the third from a corner in the closing stages.
Praise from the coach
Olise has now notched up no less than five goal contributions (four goals, one assist) in his last three appearances for France's U23s - and his coach Thierry Henry was full of praise: "He has the quality to change a game. He puts sides under pressure, works hard and helps the team," said the former world-class striker - and continued: "He's very interested, always wants the ball. He has great quality, but he still has a long way to go."
Olise and Co. can take the next step towards the quarter-finals as early as this Saturday (21:00 CEST) in Nice, when they take on Guinea, who lost 2-1 to New Zealand in their opening match on Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile, Olise's new teammates at FC Bayern wrapped up their training camp at the Tegernsee on Wednesday.
