At a moving funeral service, representatives from FC Bayern paid their respects together with the family and friends of Thomas Wilhelmi, who worked closely with the German record champions' first team for 17 years. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen gave a speech about the popular rehab coach, while honorary president Uli Hoeneß, board member for sport Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund were also among the approximately 250 guests along with a number of current and former players, such as Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Philipp Lahm, Mark van Bommel, Klaus Augenthaler and Hans Pflügler.

Wilhelmi died at the age of 57 following a long illness. He'd worked for FC Bayern since 2007 and played a big part in the club's numerous successes over the past 17 years, not least as an important support for the players during rehab periods. During his time, Bayern won 13 Bundesliga titles, the Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup twice, seven DFB Cups, the UEFA Super Cup twice and the German Supercup nine times.
