It's a first for the new signings and coach Vincent Kompany, but it could turn out to be a double record game for Thomas Müller. FC Bayern kick off the new Bundesliga season at 15.30 CEST on Sunday with a game at VfL Wolfsburg. fcbayern.com has put together all the key facts relating to the match for you.
Thomas Müller has his eye on two records
Should Thomas Müller play against the Wolves on Sunday, the Bayern veteran would simultaneously reach two milestones. It would be the number 25's 709th competitive match for FC Bayern, which would equal the club record held by legendary goalkeeper Sepp Maier. It would also be Müller's 474th appearance in the Bundesliga, making him FCB's sole record player in this competition. Incidentally, Müller played in his very first Bundesliga game in August 2008, a 2-2 draw against Hamburger SV - it was also new Bayern coach Vincent Kompany's last Bundesliga game as a player.
A first for Kompany
Just over 16 years later, Kompany is about to make his debut as a coach in the top flight of German football. Between 2006 and 2008, the former defender made 29 Bundesliga appearances for Hamburger SV.
Opening game specialists
FC Bayern have not lost any of their last 12 Bundesliga season openers, equalling the all-time record previously only achieved by MSV Duisburg (until 1994) and VfB Stuttgart (until 1977). Naturally, the plan is for this impressive run to be extended in Wolfsburg.
FCB goals (almost) guaranteed
In their last 32 Bundesliga outings against VfL Wolfsburg, the men from Munich have never failed to find the back of the net. During this period, FCB have notched up a staggering 90 goals against VfL. It's Bayern's longest scoring streak against any opponents in Bundesliga history.
Musiala's favourite opponents
VfL Wolfsburg are something like favourite opponents for Jamal Musiala: the attacking midfieleder has scored more Bundesliga goals against them than any other club (5), and only against FSV Mainz 05 has he racked up as many goal contributions (6). Musiala has scored in each of his last three games against the Wolves.
