Bayern striker Harry Kane thumped the ball into the net with a bang – and the tension among the crowd was released in frenzied celebrations! That’s just how the English star striker gave FCB a 1-0 lead in the Champions League round of 16 first leg against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. One of many diagonal balls found Michael Olise on the right wing, before the number 17 set the ball onto his right foot and crossed into the centre, where Kane, with a perfectly timed run and great desire, headed into the left corner with verve. This strike, which marked the start of a clear 5-0 aggregate victory over Leverkusen in the last 16, meant so much to supporters of the German record champions that they voted it their Goal of the Month for March.
Kane just ahead of Sané

Kane received 33.5 percent of the votes, putting him top ahead of his team-mate Leroy Sané’s effort against St. Pauli (26.1%) and Lennart Karl’s goal in the U19 match against Heidenheim (24.3%). Surprisingly, it’s Kane’s first Goal of the Month award of the current campaign, which shows the balance in the Bayern squad. Since August 2024, Mathys Tel, Aleksandar Pavlović, Kingsley Coman, Jamal Musiala (x2), Joshua Kimmich and Sané have all claimed the monthly prize.
Kane a front-runner – in Germany and Europe
Kane’s opener against Leverkusen was the England captain’s eighth European goal of the season at the time. He’s since increased his tally to 10 ahead of the quarter-final second leg against Inter and is third in the Champions League scoring chart. Only Barcelona duo Robert Lewandowski (11) and Raphinha (12) have netted more times so far in Europe’s premier club competition. In the Bundesliga, meanwhile, the 31-year-old is well out in front with 23 goals.
