How can Bayern win the Bundesliga this weekend?

Bayern have been top of the Bundesliga since Matchday 3 and are now within touching distance of regaining the title as they go to RB Leipzig this Saturday. It’s their first chance to secure the Meisterschale under their own steam. fcbayern.com runs through the scenarios of how Bayern can be crowned champions for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons this weekend.

Vincent Kompany’s men sit in first place on 75 points going into Matchday 32, holding an eight-point lead over defending champions Bayer Leverkusen in second. It means a win in Leipzig will wrap up the title with two games to spare, which are at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach and away at Hoffenheim.

In the event of a draw at the Red Bull Arena, Bayern will need to wait for Leverkusen’s game away at Freiburg on Sunday afternoon. Any result other than a Werkself victory will send the title back to Munich. If Xabi Alonso’s men were to win, they would reduce the gap to six points with two games to go. And while Bayern would mathematically still be within reach, their goal difference (+61) is so much better than Leverkusen’s (+31) that the reality is that the defending champions would be unable to overtake the Bavarians.

In the event of a defeat at fifth-placed Leipzig, who themselves are still pushing for Champions League qualification, then Bayern will also have to wait for Sunday’s game. Again, anything other than a win for Leverkusen in Freiburg will hand the title back to Bayern and spark celebrations at home in Munich.
