'Giulia Gwinn is a role model for everyone' – FC Bayern celebrates Footballer of the Year

Several FC Bayern players took top spots in the "Footballer of the Year" poll.

President Herbert Hainer: “Congratulations to Giulia Gwinn and Florian Wirtz on their victories and to Michael Olise on second place. Giulia is a role model, she encourages people to surpass themselves. Michael thrilled the German footballing family in his very first season and has won the hearts with his style. We’re very proud both are on the ball for FC Bayern.”

CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen: “We’re very pleased Giulia Gwinn has followed in Lea Schüller’s footsteps as another ‘Footballer of the Year’ from our club. Giulia has been a key player at Bayern and in the German national team for years – on the pitch and as a person. Not only does she follow her own path, she also paves the way for others.

Congratulations to our six players who made it into the top ten, Michael Olise in particular, he was a key player in our attack as an assist king in his first season. He is a wizard who draws fans to the stadium.”

Board member for sport Max Eberl: “Giulia Gwinn and Michael Olise inspire the fans. We knew what qualities he had when we signed Michael – he demonstrates them in every game, he was a high performer from the start. Congratulations to Giulia Gwinn, who leads the way at FC Bayern and as Germany captain.”

633 sports journalists took part in the poll carried out by sports magazine kicker. The deadline for the submissions was 28 July. The award exists since 1960, with Franz Beckenbauer the record holder on four titles.
