World and European champion, champion of precision and crowd favourite Andi Obst is staying at home in Munich and part of the FC Bayern family. The Germany national team basketball player, who has been shooting three-pointers for the Red Giants since 2021, has extended his contract until 2029. Obst is one of his team's top performers season after season and has become one of the defining faces of FC Bayern. Like footballers Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies, or Giulia Gwinn and Lena Oberdorf for the women, he represents the future of the club. For the first time, the club has also developed its own collection HERE to celebrate the contract extension of the most successful three-point shooter in this EuroLeague season.
Herbert Hainer, FC Bayern president: “As everyone can imagine, we are very proud and happy that Andi is staying with us. He is the face of FC Bayern Basketball and has long been part of the Bayern family. In our opinion, Andi is not only the best long-range shooter in Europe, but thanks to his character he is more than just an outstanding basketball player. We made it very clear to him that the club has big ambitions in basketball, and so does Andi. The fact that he quickly decided to stay with FC Bayern Basketball shows that the most lucrative offer certainly wasn’t the decisive factor for him. That speaks for him and for our relationship with him. He has found a home here, and that is immensely valuable. This is a great day for all of FC Bayern.”
Andi Obst: “I’m very, very happy to be able to stay at Bayern, because Munich has also become my home over the past five years. The setup at FC Bayern Basketball is perfect for me, so I didn’t have to think long. We still have big plans and I’m not finished here yet; I want to achieve even more with this club. Bayern has now done everything possible to keep me, and I value that greatly and am grateful for the immense trust. That’s why this was a very quick decision from the heart. Because what am I missing here, really? Nothing at all. I hope I can continue to take on a lot of responsibility for the club. That’s my goal.”

Obst is a figurehead for the entire club, so there were also many reactions from the football side. Musiala said, “We’re happy that Andi has extended his contract. Phonzy, myself and everyone else will continue to watch him over the next few years.” Davies, like Musiala a regular guest at FCBB games, added that he “can't wait to see him play again, to see the magic he brings to the court. Like everyone else, I'm very happy that he's staying at Bayern.” Germany Women players Giulia Gwinn and Lena Oberdorf also sent their greetings. “Congratulations on your contract extension. Here's to many more successes and titles here in Munich,” said Gwinn, while Oberdorf added: “I'm really happy that Andi has extended his contract. Unfortunately, I've only ever seen him play on television. Whenever I've been in the stadium, he hasn't been playing. Now I'll definitely have the chance to see him live soon.” Honorary president Uli Hoeneß looked ahead: “I was delighted to hear that FC Bayern Basketball had managed to sign Andi for another three years. This is not only a sporting enrichment—Andi is also a great guy and fits wonderfully with FC Bayern. I wish him continued success and hope that in the coming years those responsible can put a team around him with which he can celebrate even greater, above all international, successes.”
After captain Vladimir Lucic, who is playing his tenth season in Munich, Obst is the second-longest-serving player in the ranks of the German champions. Following the World Cup triumph in 2023 with the national team, the 29-year-old has steadily taken his game to the next level at Bayern. In the EuroLeague, he is currently FC Bayern Basketball’s leading scorer with an average of 15.5 points, and likewise in the Bundesliga (14.9 ppg).
The T-shirts, caps and mugs from the club's own collection are now available in the online shop and at Bayern's home games, with the first sale expected to take place tomorrow at the SAP Garden during the BBL clash with Braunschweig. “FC Bayern is known for firmly anchoring its sporting greats within the club. The novelty of having our own merchandise line is a special sign of our appreciation for Andi,” explained Hainer. Obst added, “I have to pinch myself. This appreciation makes me very proud. I think the shirt is cool, and I'm going to give my grandma and grandpa a few mugs so they can see me in the morning when they have their tea.”
