Targeted improvements at Säbener Straße

Renovated performance centre, modernised pitches, new FC Bayern Store
On Monday, head coach Vincent Kompany’s team begin preparations for the new season. At the same time, FC Bayern has been building its future at Säbener Straße since early June. The expansion of the performance centre and the renovation of the grass pitches will modernise the training ground, while the FC Bayern Store is undergoing a makeover. The works deliberately commenced during the summer break and will continue through the autumn and into the winter, ensuring that training can continue as usual.

“We’re working flat out to improve the infrastructure at Säbener Straße,” explained Jan-Christian Dreesen. “The renovated pitches, the modernised rehab area and the extension of the first-team block will create further training, diagnostics and rehab possibilities - and thus even better preconditions for our sporting success.” The CEO added: “It’s also nice that our FC Bayern Store is getting a new look too. This will allow us to offer our fans even more at Säbener Straße in the future – at a place that symbolises the identity of our club like nowhere else. Säbener Straße is and remains the home of FC Bayern Munich, which is why it’s important for us that Säbener Straße continues to be accessible to our fans and we can come together as the Bayern family here. Open training sessions are part of that – in consultation with our sporting management, of course.”
Performance centre reconstruction: More space, more performance
The first-team performance centre is being expanded to around 1,000 square metres. The existing terrace behind the building is being replaced by a new structure that extends over the basement, ground floor, first floor and second floor, connecting the Profihaus to the Service Center. The total area will comprise around 3,500 square metres in the future.

New rooms are being built on the ground floor – including, at the request of Kompany, a meeting room directly by the entrance to the training pitch from the dressing room, enabling him to discuss situations with players immediately before or after training. Dressing rooms for the coach, assistant coaches and staff are being enlarged and renovated, while the nutrition advisers will have their own kitchenette to provide players with personalised snacks and shakes. In the basement, laundry and storage areas are being expanded, making the logistics around the players' kits even more efficient.
On the upper floors, the rehabilitation and fitness areas are being extended so that the team can train together in one single, connected space. Strength and endurance training areas are being created, along with open spaces for gymnastics, stretching exercises and performance diagnostics, all of which can be flexibly adapted for various training formats. In addition, the second floor will be accessible by elevator in the future – a significant relief for injured players. Construction is scheduled to last until the end of January, and individual areas are set to be put into operation step by step, starting in the international break in the autumn.

New pitches: Hybrid grass and more space
The grass pitches are undergoing a comprehensive renovation to bring the quality and playing surface even more in line with the conditions at the Allianz Arena. All three fields will be equipped with modern hybrid turf systems, new drainage systems and turf heating. A cistern for storing rainwater has also been installed underground to promote greater sustainability and independence in water consumption. A new privacy screen system for all three pitches is designed to withstand high wind loads and is therefore more robust than previous solutions. An additional open grass area will be created between the pitches to serve as a warm-up zone, allowing for warm-up exercises and goalkeeper training without putting strain on the main field. One pitch will be rotated 90 degrees to make optimal use of the space. All three pitches are due to be fully completed by the end of September.
New FC Bayern Store: Brighter, more open, with pitch view
The FC Bayern Store at Säbener Straße is also getting an upgrade. The selling space remains the same at around 250 square metres but is being completely redesigned: light floors, warm wooden tones, lots of natural light. The central checkout with an LED board provides space for content and activations, while seating invites fans to relax.

The highlight of the new store is a panoramic window with a view of the pitches, which will be closed when required to protect training operations and the privacy of the players. The opening of the store is planned for late July, at the start of the summer holidays, with a small launch event with a club legend and DJ.
