Vincent Kompany: 'I'm able to enjoy pressure when things are difficult'

What’s his favourite match so far as FC Bayern coach? What does the boss see as his personal strengths? What’s the hardest thing about coaching a club like FC Bayern? What does he think of the new signings – and does the team have what it takes to win the Champions League this season? We put several of your questions to our head coach Vincent Kompany and asked him to answer them.

Vincent Kompany answers fans’ questions

“The targets at FC Bayern are always set as high as possible, which means: winning the Bundesliga, winning the cup, winning the Champions League – and perhaps even winning every single match. We definitely try to do that.” It wasn’t just purely sporting questions that Vincent Kompany faced. He was also asked about his favourite games and favourite moments from last season and in his whole time at FC Bayern. The Belgian revealed: “I'm able to enjoy the pressure when thngs are difficult. That’s not a bad thing for me. I’ll find solutions, I’ll find strength – it’s a family thing.” 

The head coach even revealed personal things like his pre-match ritual to the Bayern fans: “Before a game I’ll often take a shower, while the players are outside warming up.” The coach also uses the time for thinking. “It’s a moment of peace and quiet – and yet also a moment full of thoughts,” he said.

‘A mix between tradition and home’

What does the former world-class defender think about FC Bayern? What makes this top club special? “What I like the most is the mix between real Bavarian tradition, and the fact that for players like Michael Olise or Franck Ribéry in the past, it’s always been possible to make FC Bayern a home,” described Kompany. “So there's a strong mix
between Bavarian tradition and a home for many people that come from all over the world. I love that.”
