France victorious thanks to Olise and Upamecano

Strong performances from Bayern duo Dayot Upamecano and Michael Olise helped to ensure that Zinedine Zidane’s tenure as France national team coach got off to a winning start. Olise set up the only goal of the game for Kylian Mbappé in the 1-0 win over Türkiye, although the Real Madrid striker was forced off with a knee injury shortly afterwards. The two Bayern players also impressed overall on Zidane’s debut.

Olise came close to giving France the lead himself shortly before half-time with a curling effort, which goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır managed to get his fingertips to. In the 53rd minute, the deadlock was broken when Mbappé finished off a precise pass from Olise, who was replaced by Bradley Barcola on 78 minutes. 

Upamecano with impressive stats

Les Bleus held onto their slender lead in İzmit, thanks in no small part to Upamecano. The Bayern centre-back successfully completed 88 percent of his passes across the 90 minutes, won 83 percent of his duels and all his aerial challenges.
