Bavarian Minister-President award: Great honour for Vincent Kompany

FC Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany will receive the Bavarian Minister-President's personal award at the 2026 Bavarian Sports Awards ceremony. Markus Söder is recognising the 40-year-old’s sporting achievements as well as his clear stance against racism and discrimination, it says in the official explanation. “A great coach for a great club – and a committed advocate for humanity!” explained Söder. “Vincent Kompany is an exceptional coach with a clear playing philosophy, leadership qualities as well as charisma on and off the pitch. Under his leadership, FC Bayern Munich shines with attractive, attacking football. With trust and a clear stance, he moulds excellent individual talents into a likeable and inspiring team every season.”

Last year, long-time FCB CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge received the award. Franz Beckenbauer, Thomas Müller, Philipp Lahm, Ottmar Hitzfeld, Oliver Kahn and Sepp Maier are among those who have been recognised in the past. Honoray president Uli Hoeneß and the FC Bayern women’s team have also previously been honoured as part of the Bavarian Sports Awards. This year, 23-year-old new signing Nathaniel Brown won in the youth category, following in the footsteps of Joshua Kimmich, Mats Hummels and Jamal Musiala, who too were once presented with this trophy.

The ceremony for the 2026 Bavarian Sports Awards will be held on Saturday night following Bayern’s away match at Augsburg at the BMW Welt in Munich’s Olympic Park.
