Start for Damnjanović

There was one change in the Bayern starting eleven compared to the goalless draw in the home game against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Allianz Arena, as Damnjanović began in place of Klara Bühl, who initially took a seat in the dugout. Munich were also without Samantha Kerr (knee) as well as the long-term injured players Sydney Lohmann (ligament and ankle), Pernille Harder (medial ligament), Carolin Simon (cruciate ligament rupture), Weronika Zawistowska (cruciate ligament rupture) and Cécilía Rán Rúnarsdóttir (kneecap).

Three goals before half-time

Munich made their dominance clear from the start. Lea Schüller had the first big chance in the fifth minute. After a cross from the left, the striker slammed a volley against the crossbar from close range. Just three minutes later, the ball found its way into the net for the first time. After a short free-kick, the ball landed at Gwinn’s feet on the edge of the box and the Germany international scored to make it 1-0.

The Bayern women kept the pressure on Leipzig and increased their lead in the 14th minute. After a slick move through the centre, Schüller perfectly teed up her strike partner Damnjanović and the Serbian arrowed the ball over the line to make it 2-0. Afterwards, the visitors dominated the game and let the ball and their opponents do the work. Shortly before half-time, it was Damnjanović again who scored at the near post after a one-two with Schüller, making it 3-0 at the break.

Controlled second half

After the interval, the home team were a little more courageous and created their first dangerous chance in the 46th minute, but Sandra Starke aimed just wide of the target. At the other end, Damnjanović (49') headed a Gwinn cross onto the crossbar. Shortly afterwards, Schüller (61') might have made it four after a counterattack via Linda Dallmann, but goalkeeper Elvira Herzog made the save.

In the closing stages, the Frauen shifted down a gear and kept possession for long stretches. In the 85th minute, 16-year-old Alara Şehitler made her Bundesliga debut. In the end, it was a well-deserved and convincing 3-0 away win on Matchday 5.
