Lea Schüller reaches 100 goals as FC Bayern Women extend run with 4-1 win over Essen

FC Bayern Women made it five straight wins with a 4-1 victory at home to Essen in the Google Pixel Bundesliga. Despite going a goal down inside two minutes, José Barcala’s side hit back at the FC Bayern Campus as Lea Schüller equalised. Pernille Harder then put the champions ahead only moments later, before Schüller grabbed the third before the break. Linda Dallmann wrapped it all up in the closing minutes.

The result takes Bayern six points clear at the top of the table ahead of Wolfsburg prior to their game at home to Hoffenheim later on Saturday.

Schüller and Harder turn things around

The visitors, bottom of the table and without a win, made the perfect start when they won the ball and Ramona Maier smashed her shot into the top corner from some 30 yards out. Bayern quickly regained their composure and set about their business. They were level after a quarter of an hour when Schüller headed in a Klara Bühl cross for her 100th goal in Bayern colours. The Munich Frauen were then ahead only four minutes later as Bühl again proved the provider with a square ball to Harder to finish low into the right corner. Schüller extended the advantage before half-time when she ran onto Harder’s pass and finished against her former club.

Late debuts, Dallmann adds fourth

The second period continued as the first had ended, with only the frame of the goal denying Schüller a hat-trick when her header hit the crossbar from a Bühl corner. Bayern controlled proceedings until the end as notable chances remained at a premium. In the closing minutes, Maria Plattner was handed her senior debut for the club and Luzie Zähringer came on for her Bundesliga debut. Another ex-Essen player, Dallmann, then rounded off the scoring when presented with a tap-in by Harder running through the centre in the 88th minute.
