Sofia Jakobsson: Looking forward to a new era

FC Bayern Women have brought in another internationally experienced player for the forthcoming season in Sofia Jakobsson. The 31-year-old Sweden international offers the German champions another option in attack with her variability. In an interview with fcbayern.com, the 2016 Olympic silver medallist talks about her expectations and how she sees the future of women’s football at Bayern Munich.

'FC Bayern Women have a great future ahead of them!'

Welcome to FC Bayern! What persuaded you to move to Munich?
Jakobsson: “There are lots of reasons why I wanted to join Bayern Munich. The most important is that I have the chance to win major trophies with this club. I’m looking forward to a new era, in which Bayern will be at the top of the league for many years.”

What did you already know about FC Bayern before your contract negotiations?
“I obviously knew quite a bit about the club. Bayern did particularly well this year, winning the title and reaching the Champions League semi-finals. For me, they have a strong team and a big future because they have a good mixture of young and experienced players. I know, therefore, that I’m joining a good club with a strong team that have a great future ahead of them.”

How would you describe yourself as a player on the pitch and how can you help Bayern Women?
“I think I can bring a great deal of experience to the team. I’m a player who’s very physical. I always play for the team and give 100 percent. I’m also a fast player who’s capable of beating defenders one-v-one. And I like scoring goals.”

What are you most looking forward to?
“To start with I’m really looking forward to being in Munich, seeing the city and of course getting to know my new teammates. The culture and the surroundings are obviously new to begin with. I’m already looking forward to seeing lots of exciting things. For me it’s particularly important to be in good surroundings in which I can keep developing and win major trophies.”
