FC Bayern have extended the contract of youth player Julia Landenberger by two years. The 19-year-old came to Munich in 2021 from Freiburg’s reserves. The Germany U19 international has been training with the first team as of last year and already made eight appearances in the Bundesliga and UEFA Women’s Champions League.
“Convinced of her development”
Landenberger is excited about her new deal through to 2025: “FC Bayern is a big club. I think almost everyone dreams as a little kid of playing here. When you get an offer like this, you obviously want to extend.” Sporting director Bianca Rech sees the potential in the defender: “We’ve extended with Julia for two more years because we’re convinced of her development. Especially last year where she trained with our first team and improved a lot. We’re looking forward to accompanying her on his journey.”
Strong in the air and with vision
Landenberger made her Bundesliga debut with Bayern at just 18 on 6 February 2022 against SC Sand. Not long after, she featured against Paris Saint-Germain at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League quarter-final. “I’m strong in the air and have good vision because I used to play in midfield. I can continue to improve in all areas and learn from others because I’m still so young,” Landenberger continued.
Rech added: “There are definitely areas at her young age where she still needs to improve, but she’s taken a big step forward, especially in the last year. We’re pleased to have tied a young player to our club further and will give her the chance to continue developing.”
