FC Bayern Women have signed Katharina Naschenweng from TSG Hoffenheim for next season. The 25-year-old defender has agreed a three-year contract at FCB. "It goes without saying that Bayern is a massive club," said Naschenweng, who has 38 caps for Austria. "I felt from the start that the interest was there and that they wanted to work with me. That just persuaded me. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to play for FC Bayern."
"Versatile defensively and offensively"
After five years in Sinsheim, Naschenweng will move to Munich ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. Bianca Rech, FC Bayern Women sporting director, is convinced by the Austrian. "We're looking forward to welcoming Kathi here from summer 2023. She's versatile defensively and offensively, and should enhance our team with her qualities next season. Over the next three years she'll help us to achieve the goals we want to achieve."
Experience in different competitions
Naschenweng has made 60 FLYERALARM Women's Bundesliga appearances to date, as well as 10 in the UEFA Women's Champions League. "I've already played in the Champions League with Hoffenheim - now my aim is to continue doing that with Bayern. Of course, I also want to win titles and try to help the team," added the 25-year-old. She describes herself as a "left wide player, who likes to get forward, play with pace and has a good left foot".
Joining Austrian contingent at Bayern
Born in Spittal an der Drau, Naschenweng is continuing the tradition of Austrian players at FC Bayern Women. She has already been in touch with vice-captain Sarah Zadrazil and defender Carina Wenninger (currently on loan at Roma). "I've had a chat with Zadi already, we get on really well, including in the national team. Obviously I've been in contact with her and also with Carina," confirmed Naschenweng. Now they won't just be teammates in the national team. "Austrians have a very long and great tradition with us, so I'm pleased that another Austrian is making her way to FC Bayern," commented Rech.
Naschenweng will join up with the team in summer 2023, with both parties looking forward to working with each other. "I'm looking forward to next season and to getting going with Bayern," said Naschenweng.
