Fresh from a week-long training camp in Doha, and a brief stop back in Munich for more training, FC Bayern Women are now on tour in Mexico. Sydney Lohmann sat down with us to talk about the first few days in Monterrey and the team’s development.
Interview with Sydney Lohmann
Sydney, what’s been your first impression of Mexico?
“I’d never been to Mexico before and am positively surprised. This morning, when we opened the curtains, we had nice weather and saw the sun shining over the mountains. At the same time, you get a real big-city feeling. The people are so welcoming and open, and the food is obviously super tasty.”
What can a tour like this offer you as a team?
“A tour always gives you something, because it automatically expands your horizons. The friendly against Tigres will definitely be an exciting challenge because their style of play will be different. A tour is also good for our team feeling, so we’ll hopefully have some nice moments here.”
You’ve been a fixture of the team for a number of years now. How do you think the team has developed in that time?
“A lot has changed with the many comings and goings a few years ago. The team has gotten younger. I think we have a lot of potential. On the one hand, you need some time, but on the other we’re already a good team that can achieve things. It’s fun working with the team on that every day. We’ve got big goals and also always want to set the bar high.”
Would you say your enjoyment of football and fun within the team is your key to success?
“Of course there should be no shortage of fun because I think that’s the only way you can perform. Especially now, with all the young players in the team, it’s important to find a balance between fun and mentality. We proved that in the 2020/21 title-winning season, for example.”
We’ve spoken a lot about the team, so what three attributes would you ascribe the team?
“Loving, crazy and open-minded.”
