Alexander Straus: Very proud of our players

There was a party atmosphere among the FC Bayern Women team and the 20,000 fans at the Allianz Arena! They could hardly have pictured the quarter-final first leg against Arsenal WFC better. "I'm very pleased. Such a great atmosphere certainly pushes you," said Lea Schüller, who scored the only goal in the 1-0 win and was named Player of the Match. Coach Alexander Straus also appeared pleased with the performance after the game, while already looking ahead: "We're very happy with the clean sheet. It's still open, we've only played the first half." fcbayern.com rounds up the rest of the reaction for you.

Alexander Straus: "It was a very even game. It could've finished 1-1. We were the better team in the first half, but Arsenal were better for the most part in the second half. They pressed very high and we stood very deep. You have to give them credit for that. We're very proud of our players. We had our difficulties but we knew that Arsenal are a good team. We lost the ball too often in the second period. The players were also a bit excited by this crowd. We need to be a bit calmer there. We defended brilliantly, even on the goal line. We're very happy with the clean sheet. It's still open, we've only played the first half."

Lina Magull: "We're very happy about the win. We played very well in the first half and deserved to score a goal. That will also be important next week. Unfortunately we sat back too much in the second half, but we showed strong character and threw ourselves at every ball. Overall it was a strong team performance. Now we need to take this positive feeling with us."

Sarah Zadrazil: "I'm just proud of the whole team. Nothing's decided yet but a 1-0 home win is a good starting scoreline. We got into the game really well in the first half and also created a lot of chances. We let ourselves be pushed back a bit after the break, but defended well."

Lea Schüller: "I'm very pleased. Going into the second leg with a 1-0 lead is certainly good. It's always nice to play in front of a crowd like this. Such a great atmosphere certainly pushes you, it's just a nice experience. We now want to build on the first-half performance in London. In the second half we were almost begging to concede a goal. We need to score another goal quickly to give ourselves a bit of breathing room."

Reaction from the Arsenal camp

Jonas Eidevall (Arsenal coach): "We weren't efficient enough. We simply need to put the chances away in the second leg. Bayern are really strong on the counter - we'll have to defend against that again in the second leg. We're disappointed about the result but we'll give everything to turn it around in London."
