FC Bayern Women have secured the services of Scotland international Samantha Mary Kerr as of next season. The 24-year-old midfielder will move from Rangers WFC and has signed a three-year contract until 2026 in Munich. "It's Bayern Munich, it's an opportunity that I couldn't turn down," said Scotland's 2022 Women's Player of the Year. "FCB are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the quality of players here is amazing. I'm looking forward to being a part of that and hope that I can help the team and this amazing club,"
'She has the fighting spirit'
After seven years and five Scottish Women's Premier League titles, Kerr will be playing for FC Bayern from the 2023/24 campaign. Francisco De Sá Fardilha, FC Bayern Women technical director, is delighted with the new signing. "She's ambitious and she wants to develop. We think it's the right point in her career to come to FC Bayern and help us fight for our objectives. She fits everything this club stands for. She has the fighting spirit, she has the tactical quality and the technical quality. Above everything, she's hungry."
International experience
Kerr has played for the Scottish senior national team since 2020 and has made 14 appearances to date. She's also gained experience on the big stage in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where she reached the quarter-finals of Europe's premier club compettiion with former club Glasgow City in the 2019/20 season. "I've played big teams before in the Champions League and I think I can gain the experience here to go further," she added. As a player, the midfielder describes herself as a battler: "I'm an energetic player who gives everything for the team. I'm hungry, I work hard and like to get stuck into every tackle. I'm that typical Scottish player," said Kerr.
Pre-season in Munich
As Scotland missed out on qualification for the World Cup, Kerr will join up with FC Bayern Women early and complete pre-season in Munich from the start. The club and player are looking forward to their time together. "We stand for our 'Mia san mia' motto, not only in Germany but also abroad. There are players that fit this mentality, and I think the signing of Samantha is evidence of that," said De Sá Fardilha.
