FC Bayern Women name captains for 2023/24

Ahead of kicking off the 2023/24 Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga, FC Bayern Women have now also named their captains for the new season in Glódís Perla Víggósdottir, Sarah Zadrazil and Georgia Stanway. The Iceland international will wear the armband out on the pitch.

Viggósdóttir: “It’s obviously a huge honour to get to lead the team out as captain. I’m very happy about it. We have a lot of leaders in the team, and I think it’s important to have several players on the pitch who can lead from the front. It’s the only way to be successful. I know the armband brings a lot of responsibility with it. I’ll do my best to do it justice.”

“Everyone has to take on responsibility”

Head coach Alexander Straus: “Glódis had a fantastic season last year, and I hope she continues that. I’m pleased about all three of them. Lina [Magull] has done so much for the team in recent years and will continue to take on responsibility. I’m also pleased about that. We have a lot of leaders in the team and every individual has to lead from the front and take on responsibility.”

The captain of the last three years, Lina Magull, will step away from the leadership trio but remain a leader within the team. “I’m very proud and grateful that I got to be captain for three years. The trust in me has helped me a lot to develop as a person and a player. At the same time, it’s taken a lot of energy, and now I want to focus on myself and my performances again. At the end of the day, it won’t change too much for me because I’ll continue striving for our success and our values,” said the Germany international of her decision.
