Mexico, championship & milestones: FC Bayern Women in 2023

Resounding wins, new records and the fifth German championship in the club's history! FC Bayern Women can look back on an extremely successful 2023. In addition to big wins in the Bundesliga and magical nights in the Champions League, this past calendar year also held plenty of emotional moments in store. fcbayern.com takes a look over the past 12 months.

Winter training camp in Doha

Bayern Women kicked off the new year with a training camp in Doha. In addition to intensive training sessions, the programme included school visits as well as training and activities with the FC Bayern men's team, who were also preparing for the Rückrunde in the desert state.

FC Bayern Women's tour to Mexico

Following the training camp in Doha, head coach Alexander Straus' side travelled to Mexico, more specifically to Monterrey. As part of the Copa Amazonas, the Reds played a friendly against Tigres Femenil in front of 42,000 spectators at the Estadio Universitario. Click here for our  "Inside Mexico" vlog.

A perfect start

A successful start to the new year! A real acid test awaited FCB Women right at the start with the Bundesliga home match against Eintracht Frankfurt. Thanks to a convincing performance and two goals from Glódís Viggósdóttir and Lea Schüller, the Munich Women were able to celebrate a 2-1 win in their first competitive match of the year!

Europe's premier women's club competition at the Allianz Arena

Finally, it was that time again! Following the first two Champions League clashes against Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in 2022, FC Bayern Women played at the Allianz Arena for the third time in March 2023. In the Champions League quarter-finals, Bayern celebrated a hard-fought 1-0 first-leg win over Arsenal in front of 20,000 spectators. Go behind the scenes in our video!

Success in crunch match against Wolfsburg

Just four days after beating Arsenal in Europe's premier women's club competition, Bayern faced their next tough test. The matchday's standout fixture of the women's Bundesliga was a top-of-the-table clash against VfL Wolfsburg with first place up for grabs. Thanks to Georgia Stanway's converted penalty and the well-earned 1-0 win that came with it, FCB Women headed to the top of the table.

10 straight Bundesliga wins

After the important win over the Wolves, FCB Women continued to prove their strength in the following Bundesliga matches, with head coach Alexander Straus' side celebrating a total of ten straight wins. These included some real goalfests. As well as a 5-0 rout of Köln, Bayern went on to celebrate an 8-2 win over SC Freiburg on Matchday 18. It took a 0-0 draw at Leverkusen on the penultimate matchday to put a stop to the Reds' impressive winning streak.

Farewell to Karin Danner 

After more than 28 years, FC Bayern Women said goodbye to long-serving department manager Karin Danner ahead of the season finale against Turbine Potsdam. With Danner as manager, the Munich Women celebrated three German championships, as well as winning the DFB Cup in 2012. Danner retired and was succeeded by Bianca Rech. Time to say goodbye

In addition to Karin Danner, FC Bayern Women also said farewell to four players ahead of the match against Turbine Potsdam. Laura Benkarth, Ivana Rudelić, Saki Kumagai and Emelyne Laurent left the club at the end of the season. The departures were offset by a number of new signings: Magdalena Eriksson, Pernille Harder, Ana Guzmán, Erin Nayler, Inès Belloumou, Jill Baijings, Anna Wellmann, Katharina Naschenweng, Samantha Kerr and Alara Şehitler.

Fifth title in the club's history

It was the crowning glory of a unique season! Thanks to the 11-1 home demolition of Turbine Potsdam, which was also the club's highest-ever league win, the Munich Women secured the fifth German league title in the club's history. With 19 wins, 2 draws and just one defeat, Bayern deservedly lifted the Meisterschale ahead of VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Joint title celebrations on Marienplatz

After the presentation of the Meisterschale at the FC Bayern Campus, FC Bayern Women headed to the town hall balcony on Munich's Marienplatz together with the men's team, who had clinched their 33rd German title in Cologne the day before and supported FCB Women during the game at the Campus. There, the Bavarians celebrated the men's and women's double championship with 20,000 fans. Relive the celebrations here!

Successful pre-season  

Bayern Women started their preparations for the upcoming season while the World Cup was still taking place in Australia and New Zealand. In addition to intensive training sessions, numerous friendlies were also organised. During the summer months, the Munich Women faced Sparta Prague (2-1), TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (2-2), Fortuna Sittard (3-0) and Manchester United (3-2).

Georgia Stanway - World Cup runner-up!

What an impressive performance! At the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Georgia Stanway and England reached the final against Spain. New signing Magdalena Eriksson came third with Sweden.

A fitting start to the DFB Cup campaign

A convincing start to the new season! In their first competitive match of the campaign, FC Bayern Women faced SG 99 Andernach in the second round of the DFB Cup and secured a comfortable 2-0 win against the second-division side. Along with Jovana Damnjanović, new summer signing Pernille Harder also got on the scoresheet for FCB Women for the first time.

Bundesliga first at the Allianz Arena

Record Bundesliga crowd for FC Bayern Women! The Reds celebrated their Bundesliga debut at the Allianz Arena with the game against Eintracht Frankfurt, welcoming 19,000 fans to the north of Munich for the 0-0 draw against last season's third-placed team, and setting a new attendance record for a Bayern match in the Bundesliga.

In mid-October, FCB Women celebrated their Bundesliga debut at Munich's Allianz Arena.

Victory in classic in front of a new record crowd

Matchday 6 saw FCB taking on VfL Wolfsburg in what's become a prestigious clash. In front of a home crowd of 4,300 fans at the FC Bayern Campus stadium for the first time, the Reds impressed from the outset. Thanks to a strong first half and two goals from Linda Dallmann and Klara Bühl, FCB Women secured a deserved 2-1 win over the Wolves to top the table in the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga.

Important away win at PSG 

FCB Women won 1-0 in the UWCL clash at Paris Saint-Germain.
Thanks to a goal from summer signing Magdalena Eriksson, FCB Women celebrated a narrow 1-0 win at Paris Saint-Germain.

In their second Champions League match of the campaign, FCB Women travelled to the French capital to face Paris Saint-Germain. Thanks to a battling performance throughout the match and a goal from summer new signing Magdalena Eriksson, the Reds secured their first win in the group stage after the draw against Roma in the Champions League opener.
