Clara Schöne will become one of Alexander Straus’s assistant coaches for FC Bayern Women’s first team from the 2024/25 season. The 30-year-old is currently coach of the reserve team and is a former Bayern player, having been on the books between 2006 and 2014, making 72 senior appearances from 2010. Schöne was part of the team that won the Bundesliga Cup in 2011 and the DFB Cup the year after. The midfielder left for Freiburg in 2014/15 and went into coaching in 2020, at first as assistant with Bayern’s second women’s team before taking over the reins in July 2022. Now, 10 years after leaving as a player, she will once again be part of her former team as assistant coach.
Schöne: “Bayern is my club!”
The former Germany youth international is excited about her new role as of next season: “I’m so grateful to Bayern for this chance. It means so much to me. Munich is my home and Bayern is my club! I’d always hoped to return to Bayern’s first team as a player one day, play in the Champions League and win the Bundesliga. Now I can achieve that as a coach.”
Born in Gräfelfing, on the outskirts of Munich, she now wants to achieve maximum success with the team on the touchline. “I want to do everything for the team to enjoy success. I think we should strive for high goals, and I’ll try to play my part in the success to come,” the 30-year-old stated. “I’ve known the surroundings at the Campus for a number of years now. I know and hold the staff in high esteem, enjoy coming to work every day. I’ve also known Alexander Straus for some time. I’m looking forward to getting to work with him and learning from him.”
Rech: “Clara is a great young coach”
Bianca Rech, head of FC Bayern Women: “Clara already knows all facets and sides of Bayern. She played at the highest level and can put herself in the shoes of a player. She’s emphatic and has already shown her quality as a coach. She’s the right fit for Bayern’s culture with her character and values. We firmly believe that Clara will be a bonus for us as assistant coach.” Schöne began her playing career at the club and will soon be a part of the coaching team, which is the path Bayern wants to take. “It’s important to us that we can offer our own talents a career at all levels, if possible. Clara is a great young coach, and we will have a lot of fun with her. She lives and breathes Bayern, and we are very much looking forward to working with her,” explained Rech.
Moritz Volz is working as assistant until the end of the season:
