Today, 8 March, is International Women's Day. Reason enough for FC Bayern's first-team players to reflect on the development of women's football. “I used to dream of becoming a professional footballer. But it wasn't really possible back then,” says Georgia Stanway, the 2022 European champion with England. Until a few years ago, there were almost no role models in women's football who were known to a wider public. Bayern’s players are aware that it is up to them to change this. “We can now take on this role. It's very important to me personally to be a role model for little girls, because I didn't have that myself,” says co-captain Sarah Zadrazil. And Stanway adds: “It really touches me when I see fans with my name and number on their jersey. And at the same time, we still have a long way to go.”
In FC Bayern Women's official video for today's International Women's Day, the players talk about their childhood with male role models and their responsibility to fulfil this role today. Have fun watching!
