FC Bayern Women received a great honour on Tuesday as the German champions were invited by the City of Munich to immortalise themselves in the Golden Book. The team defended their Bundesliga title with an outstanding league campaign without defeat (19 wins, three draws). In a packed-out chamber, president Herbert Hainer, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, executive vice chairman Michael Diederich, board member for marketing Andreas Jung, head of women's football Bianca Rech as well as coach Alexander Straus and his team were received with applause by mayor Dieter Reiter and mayorees Verena Dietl.
President Hainer thanked mayor Reiter, mayoress Dietl and the members of the city council present on behalf of the club for the invitation and the opportunity to sign the city's Golden Book. "This team has more than earned this great honour," said Hainer in his speech and addressed the players: "You embody FC Bayern far beyond the pitch. You inspire young fans in particular because you show that anything is always possible if you believe in yourself and give it your all." Reiter also congratulated the team in his speech: "Congratulations on a great season! You have represented FC Bayern and Munich brilliantly." Hainer also looked ahead: "We like your attitude that this title is by no means the end of the story. With all due respect to the competition, the goal is to come back here in 2025 with more trophies, in true Bayern style."
Having been honoured, the team headed onto the balcony of the City Hall. Captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir and teammates held up the Meisterschale trophy to the roughly 2,500 fans on Marienplatz, which they'd been given on Monday following the 4-1 win at TSG Hoffenheim on the final day of the season.
Despite the rain, the fans in Munich city centre chanted "Always FCB" and "Oh, how nice that is" and cheered the players with a Mexican wave.
