Sheer excitement on the international stage! Several FCB Women were in action for their national teams in European Championship qualifiers over the past few days. fcbayern.com has a round-up of the most recent matchdays.
Germany still unbeaten
The German national team featuring Klara Bühl, Giulia Gwinn, Lea Schüller and Sydney Lohmann played a double-header against Poland on Matchdays 3 and 4 of the European Championship qualifiers. In the first encounter, head coach Horst Hrubesch's side won 4-1 in front of their home crowd. After conceding a quick goal in the first minute, the DFB team equalised through an own goal, which came after Bühl whipped in a corner. In the second half, a goal from Schüller and two more from Gwinn secured the final result. The FCB players also showed what they were capable of in the second game: Once again, Germany fell behind early on before Schüller turned the game around with a brace. Bühl, who was also making her 50th appearance for the national team, added a third to wrap up the 3-1 win.
There was also a Munich head-to head in the same group. Sarah Zadrazil (Austria) and Glódís Viggósdóttir (Iceland) also had a double-header with their national teams. After a 1-1 draw in the first game, in which Viggósdóttir scored the equaliser, Iceland won the second game 2-1.
Neck-and-neck in Group A3
It's also exciting in group A3 after the two latest games, with Georgia Stanway and England playing group leaders France at home and away. The Lionesses lost the first leg 2-1 at St James' Park and were under pressure in the return encounter. Led by Stanway, the English team defeated Les Bleus 2-1, thanks in part to a stunning goal from the FCB midfielder.
150th international appearance for Sembrant
Magdalena Eriksson and Linda Sembrant are also in Group A3 with Sweden and faced a tough double-header against the Republic of Ireland. The Tre Kronor won the first encounter comfortably 3-0, but in the second game the Irish were able to hold their own against the world number two for a long time. Bayern's Eriksson helped the Swedish fans breathe a huge sigh of relief in the 84th minute, when she headed her side to a second win over the Irish Women. It was a double celebration for Sembrant, as she also celebrated gaining her 150th cap in the match.
Norway, led by Tuva Hansen, shared the spoils with Italy in both of their Group A1 matches. They played out a goalless draw in the first game and were held to a 1-1 draw in the second. Jill Baijings and her Netherlands teammates secured four out of a possible six points against Finland in the same group. The Oranje won 1-0 on Matchday 3 and five days later the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Denmark and Pernille Harder suffered two defeats in the latest round of qualifying matches, going down 2-0 and 3-2 respectively to reigning world champions Spain.
Serbia and Scotland lead League B
In Group B2, the national teams of Sam Kerr (Scotland) and Jovana Damnjanović showed what they were capable of. The Scottish Women won both games against Israel 4-1 and 5-0 respectively, while Serbia also picked up all six points against Slovakia with 2-1 and 4-0 wins. In the second game, FCB striker Damnjanović got on the scoresheet by netting the opening goal. As a result, the two nations are level on points in first and second place in the table, although the Scots are currently ahead on goal difference.
World Cup preparation and season finale for youth teams
The German U20 side led by Laura Gloning, Sarah Ernst and Alara Şehitler played three warm-up matches over several days in Sweden to get ready for the upcoming World Cup in the summer. The preparations began with a 3-2 win against Poland's U23s, with Şehitler contributing a goal. Head coach Kathrin Peter's team also won their second match against Australia's U23s 3-0, before playing Sweden's U23s three days later. The game ended 2-2 after 90 minutes, with the Swedes winning the subsequent penalty shoot-out.
On 2 June, the DFB U17s featuring Keira Bednorz, Greta Hünten, Lisa Karl, Emma Memminger, Celina Senftl and Anja Zollner wrapped up the season against Switzerland. Coach Sabine Loderer's side won 4-2 against their southern neighbours at the Langensteinstadion.
