Bianca Rech, FC Bayern Women director: “Barbara is a complete player who can be used across the midfield and also poses a real goal threat. Her character but also her desire to win impressed us from the start. She’s a leader who takes responsibility on the pitch. We’ve got a bit of a tradition at Bayern with Austrian players. We’re happy to have her with us in Munich from the summer.”

Dunst: “An appealing challenge”

Barbara Dunst: “I’m delighted to get to play for such a successful and impressive club as Bayern in the future. The whole club has enjoyed success for a long time and always has high demands. I can really identify with those values and goals. Here in Munich you have the opportunity to test yourself against the best teams in Europe. That’s an appealing challenge. It’s always been really important for me in the past that I show the best version of myself, develop and don’t feel stagnation. The club’s ambitions are therefore right for me.”

Born on 25 September 1997 in Graz, Dunst started playing football as SV Anger. The midfielder then joined Austrian Bundesliga side LUV Graz in 2012, making her senior league debut at just 15 years of age. Two years later, she moved to domestic rivals St. Pölten, where she twice won the domestic double in three seasons before a 2017 move to Germany with Bayer Leverkusen. After further spells at Duisburg and Frankfurt, where the midfielder tore her cruciate ligament last December and has been working on a return, she will now join the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Dunst made her senior international debut for Austria in a Euro qualifier against Israel on 25 October 2015. She has since won 87 caps and scored 13 goals, also reaching the semi-finals of the 2017 Euros and winning the Cyprus Women’s Cup in 2016. The 27-year-old is a two-time Austrian Women’s Footballer of the Year, earning the award in 2023 and 2024.
