Germany beat Poland, Hansen wins in opener: How Matchday 1 of the EURO went from a Bayern perspective

The first matchday of the 14th Women's European Championship is in the books! The German team of Lea Schüller, Klara Bühl and Co celebrated a 2-0 victory over Poland, although the win was dampened by an injury to Giulia Gwinn, who was forced off in the first half in St. Gallen. As well as the nine-time European champions, Tuva Hansen and Arianna Caruso also got off to a successful start in the tournament from an FCB perspective. While Norway defeated hosts Switzerland 2-1 in their opener, Italy claimed a 1-0 success over Belgium thanks to Caruso’s goal.

There was also a direct clash between a number of Bayern players on Matchday 1, with Julia Zigiotti Olme and Magdalena Eriksson of Sweden winning 1-0 against Pernille Harder and new signing Stine Ballisager of Denmark. FCB captain Glódís Viggósdóttir (1-0 against Finland) and Georgia Stanway (2-1 against France) both suffered opening defeats with their countries. fcbayern.com provides you with a detailed overview of all the Matchday 1 encounters from a Munich perspective.
