Harder, Roord & Co: The players who have played for Bayern and Wolfsburg

The match between FC Bayern Women and VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday afternoon (15:00 CEST) is not only a top-of-the-table clash in the German top flight, but also a fixture with plenty of Bundesliga history. As well as many great battles at the highest level, the defending German champions and VfL are also linked by numerous players who have played for both clubs. fcbayern.com looks at 10 players who have worn both the red shirt and the green and white.

Lina Magull

Lina Magull, who now plies her trade at Inter Milan, began her career as a talent from Gütersloh before moving to Wolfsburg at the age of 18. Although she featured regularly for the first team in three seasons, she was unable to fully establish herself over the senior players and moved to SC Freiburg in 2015, where the midfielder firmly established herself in the Bundesliga. The next move in her career to Bayern followed in 2018. She quickly became a key part of the team in Munich and celebrated three German championships in the years that followed (20/21, 22/23, 23/24).

Kathrin Hendrich

Kathrin Hendrich has been a permanent fixture in German women’s football for over 10 years. In her first of four seasons with 1. FFC Frankfurt, the Belgium-born centre-back won the 2014/15 Champions League. In 2018 she signed for Bayern, where she made 56 appearances in all competitions. Two years later, the 81-time German international joined Wolfsburg, with whom she won the DFB Cup four times in a row from 2021 to 2024 as well as winning the 2021/22 Bundesliga title. Hendrich moved to Chicago Stars in America in the summer.

Lena Oberdorf

Lena Oberdorf made her debut for SGS Essen aged 17 and immediately broke into the first team. The now 23-year-old, who already has over 150 professional appearances to her name, spent two seasons in Essen – during which she also made her international debut – before joining Wolfsburg in 2020. There she won four consecutive DFB Cups and one Bundesliga title. The Euro 2022 runner-up moved to Bayern last summer but her debut in red was postponed until this season after she suffered a cruciate ligament tear in an Euro qualifier for Germany.

Jill Roord

Well-travelled: Jill Roord has already played for Twente, FC Bayern, Arsenal, VfL Wolfsburg and Manchester City during her career.

Dutchwoman Jill Roord moved from hometown club Twente to Bayern in 2017 as a young talent. During her time in the Bavarian state capital, her impressive performances earned her a regular starting berth for the first team as well as a debut for her country. After two seasons, the attacking midfielder, who has over 100 caps for Netherlands, moved to North London to Arsenal WFC. Following two years in England, the 2017 European champion returned to Germany with Wolfsburg. Again she stayed for two years, winning the league and cup double in 2022 as well as the DFB Cup in 2023, before leaving for England again and joining Manchester City. In the summer she went back to Twente.

Pernille Harder

What a run: Pernille Harder has won the league with her respective team in each of the past ten seasons.

Pernille Harder has been a vital component of the Bayern attack for over two years. The Danish national team captain first moved to Germany in January 2017 from Swedish top-flight club Linköpings FC. In three and a half years at VfL Wolfsburg, she developed into a world-class player and was instrumental in the She-Wolves’ four double wins (16/17, 17/18, 18/19, 19/20). During her subsequent spell in England, she also won the Super League and FA Cup in each of her three years with Chelsea FC (20/21, 21/22, 22/23). Her transfer to Bayern saw her trophy collection grow by two more championships (23/24, 24/25). Harder also won the DFB Cup with the Bavarians this year along with two Supercups (24/25, 25/26).

Marina Hegering

Marina Hegering was a permanent feature of the Germany defence for many years. In just her first season as a pro, the Bocholt-born player contributed to FCR 2001 Duisburg’s 2009 Champions League triumph. In summer 2020, Hegering – nicknamed “Maschina” because of her robust style of play – moved to Bayern following six years in Leverkusen and three in Essen. She won the Bundesliga with the Munich girls in the 2020/21 season. Until the end of last season, she was the leader of the Wolfsburg defence and collected two DFB Cups in three seasons (22/23, 23/24) before joining 1. FC Köln in the summer.

The two-time German international arrived in Munich as a young talent from SV 67 Weinberg and soon established herself as an important first-team player. She was key to the runners-up finish in the 2008/09 campaign, which was followed by the club’s first ever DFB Cup win in 2012, also the first major honour of her career. She went on to win the Bundesliga with Bayern in 2015 and 2016 before joining VfL in 2017. She won the domestic double in each of her two seasons in Lower Saxony. She ended her playing career at English club West Ham United in 2020.

Kristin Demann

Former German international Kristin Demann celebrated two Bundesliga titles early in her career with Turbine Potsdam (10/11, 11/12). She was a Hoffenheim player from 2013 to 2017 before switching to Bayern Women, where she played from 2017 to 2022. She crowned her career with a third league title in the 2020/21 campaign. After a brief six-month loan at Köln, Demann joined Wolfsburg in July 2022. The experienced defender won the DFB Cup twice (22/23, 23/24) in three years there, before hanging up her boots in summer of this year.

Fridolina Rolfö

After two and a half years as an important attacking weapon at Bayern, Rolfö decided to move to league rivals Wolfsburg. She won the league and cup in her first season with the She-Wolves, adding another cup to her collection the following year. In 2021 she opted for a move to FC Barcelona, where she celebrated two Champions League successes (22/23, 23/24) and four league titles (21/22, 22/23, 23/24, 24/25). Since this season, the 31-year-old has been under contract at English giants Manchester United.

The Dutch international spent five years in red and white, enjoying her first national title with the Bundesliga crown in the 2020/21 season. A year later, the forward joined Juventus in Italy. Following two seasons in Turin, she headed back to Germany. In her debut season with Wolfsburg, she finished as joint-top goalscorer in the Women’s Bundesliga with 16 goals together with Hoffenheim’s Selina Cerci.
