Momoko Tanikawa and the Japan national team have won the AFC Women's Asian Cup, beating hosts Australia 1-0 in the final to secure the title! It's Japan’s third Asian Cup triumph, whilst it's Tanikawa’s first. FC Bayern offers its warmest congratulations on this outstanding tournament performance!
Hainer: “Proud to have an Asian Cup winner at the club”
FC Bayern president Herbert Hainer: “We're delighted Momoko Tanikawa is part of the FC Bayern family. She is an excellent ambassador for our club, both here in Germany and in her native Japan and across Asia. Congratulations – we're proud to now have an Asian Cup winner at the club alongside two-time European champion Georgia Stanway.”
Eberl: “Congratulations on this fantastic achievement”
FC Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl: “Bundesliga champion, DFB Cup winner, Supercup winner – and now Asian Cup winner with the Japan national team: Momoko Tanikawa’s trophy collection is truly impressive. And given that she's just 20 years old, it's likely to grow even further. Congratulations on this fantastic achievement! We hope she’ll add a trophy or two to that collection with FC Bayern this season.”
Rech: “Her achievement deserves the utmost respect”
FC Bayern Women director Bianca Rech: “The entire FC Bayern Women’s football management team would like to offer Momo our heartfelt congratulations on winning the Asian Cup. What she has shown over the past few weeks is impressive. Her performance with the Japan national team throughout the tournament deserves the utmost respect. This is Japan’s third title, but Momo’s first major triumph with the senior national team, making it a very special moment in her still-fledgling career. We are very proud to have an Asian Cup winner playing for FC Bayern, and we can’t wait to see Momo back on the pitch in Munich.”
Barcala: “Fills me with great joy”
FC Bayern Women head coach José Barcala: “Momo’s success fills me with great joy. Over the past few months, she's worked with incredible dedication, further developing her game in many areas, and has once again demonstrated at the very highest level what we see every day. The fact that she has won this major title with her country in the final against hosts Australia not only speaks volumes about her mentality and character, but also demonstrates the extraordinary potential she possesses. We're convinced she'll bring this valuable experience back to the team in Munich and will be of crucial help to us as the season progresses.”
