FC Bayern Women agree contract extension with José Barcala
FC Bayern Women and José Barcala have agreed an early contract extension until 30 June 2028. The head coach’s previous contract was due to run until the summer of 2027. The Spaniard (44) moved to the Bavarian capital from Swiss top-flight side Servette ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. In their very first season together, FC Bayern Women and their Spanish coach won the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the Supercup. Moreover, under Barcala’s leadership, the Munich side reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, making it the most successful season in the club’s history.
Rech: “Barcala taking our team to a whole new level”
Bianca Rech, director of women’s football at FC Bayern: “The early contract extension with José Barcala sends a strong signal about our successful collaboration. In his first season, José impressively demonstrated that he embodies our values and is taking our team to a new level in sporting terms. With him in the dugout, we aim to build on the positive progress of the past year and continue to make steady progress in the future. The most successful season in the history of FC Bayern Women to date shows that José, with his professional expertise, his style of team leadership and his great ambition, is the right coach to help us achieve our goals both domestically and in Europe in the years to come.”

Barcala: “Grateful for the trust shown in me”
José Barcala: “Extending my contract with FC Bayern until 2028 means a lot to me. I am grateful for the trust the club has shown in me and excited about what we can continue to build together in the years ahead. When I look back at my first season, what makes me most proud is the evolution and the union of the team. I am proud of how we performed in key moments, how we competed and, above all, how we learned and grew from every match and every challenge throughout the season. I believe excellence is built through daily habits, continuous learning and the courage to challenge ourselves to improve, and that will be our objective, to continue developing as a team. We want to play the best football.”
