Bundesliga opener at the Alte Försterei: Confidence-boosting stats ahead of the clash with Union
The wait is over – at last, it's time to get down to business! Following a successful start to the season with victory in the Supercup, FC Bayern Women kick off their 2026/27 league campaign on Friday evening (18.30 CEST). For their Bundesliga opener, the team are heading to the capital – more specifically, to the Stadion an der Alten Försterei. The facts and stats for the opener reveal why the Munich Frauen are favourites to come out on top against the Köpenick side, and which of the club’s own records head coach José Barcala’s team are aiming to break.
Bavarian record with a Berlin warning label

In the only two Bundesliga clashes with Union Berlin to date, the team led by captain Glódís Perla Viggosdottir came out on top on both occasions – first with a commanding 4–0 victory in front of their home crowd, and then in April this year with a narrower 3–2 win in Berlin. However, anyone wishing to interpret this as an invitation to repeat their success against Union should not overlook the Berlin factor. For the side promoted last season pulled off a remarkable feat in the return fixture – one that no other team in the top flight managed across the whole campaign: the Köpenick women were the only ones last season to score more than one goal in a single match against the Munich side. So whilst Bayern may have the better head-to-head record, Union have proven that even a seemingly impenetrable Munich defence can, at times, be unlocked with a Berlin key.
Undefeated in the season opener

Whenever FC Bayern Women have kicked off a new Bundesliga campaign over the past ten years, they've always done so in fine style: their record stands at seven wins and three draws. It's a run they're hoping to extend in Friday's fixture in Köpenick. Ahead of the match in front of the lively crowd at the Alte Försterei, Barcala wants to inspire his team to pick up their first points of the new season. Last year, the Munich side defeated Bayer 04 Leverkusen in their opening match in front of 57,762 spectators at the Allianz Arena. Prior to that, they'd secured wins against Turbine Potsdam (2–0), Werder Bremen (8–0), Sand (6–0), Freiburg (3–1), Leverkusen (10–1) and Essen (3–0). They also drew twice against Freiburg (2–2 and 1–1) whilst the match at Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022 ended goalless.
Bayern's last defeat a long way back

Losing in the Bundesliga has become a rare occurrence for FC Bayern Women, who are now undefeated in 42 Bundesliga matches. This means they’re just two games away from equalling their own record: between 2022 and 2024, FCB Women went no less than 44 matches in a row without defeat.
Their most recent slip-up dates back to October 2024, when VfL Wolfsburg beat Bayern 2–0 in front of their home crowd. Since then, however, the double winners have been unstoppable on the road. The team are unbeaten in their last 21 away matches and have won all 19 of their most recent games on the road. This means the Munich side currently boast the longest run of away wins in the Bundesliga.
Beating the stats

In the 2025/26 season, FC Bayern Women not only kept finding the back of the net but also posted some impressive stats: the Munich side scored 90 goals, 21.3 more than their xG (expected goals) figure of 68.7 would have suggested. Even second-placed VfL Wolfsburg, with a margin of 15.7 goals, failed to come close to that figure.
But at the other end of the pitch, too, Bayern proved themselves to be experts at exceeding expectations: instead of the 12.8 goals conceded predicted by their xGA figure, they conceded just nine – almost four fewer – which was also the best statistic in the league. The aim now is to match or even surpass those figures in the 2026/27 season.
Union have gone a long time without a clean sheet at home

The Alte Försterei is, as everyone knows, a venue with a terrific atmosphere. However, a clean sheet has been a hard-to-find commodity there of late. The Irons have failed to keep one in their last nine Bundesliga home games, marking a new negative club record. Meanwhile, the Munich women travel to Köpenick with a remarkable away record: Bayern have scored in each of their last 21 away matches. These are the best stats among all current Bundesliga sides and, as such, bodes well for a successful start to the new Bundesliga campaign.
