FC Bayern Women ease into last 16 of DFB Cup

FC Bayern Women are in the DFB Cup round of 16! Head coach Alexander Straus' side notched a convincing 6-0 win away to Bundesliga 2 outfit SC Sand on Sunday afternoon to progress to the next round. Jovana Damnjanović (7') set the Munich girls on their way early on at the Adams Arena, with Georgia Stanway (26') making it 2-0 going into the break. After the restart, Linda Dallmann (58') and substitutes Giulia Gwinn (69'), Julia Zigotti (72') and Lea Schüller (89') widened the margin to 6-0. FCB will discover their opponents in the last 16 when the draw is made on 16 September.

Four changes

Straus made four changes to the team that got off to a winning start in the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga at Turbine Potsdam last weekend. In defence, Tuva Hansen started in place of Gwinn, while Samantha Kerr and Dallmann came in for Sarah Zadrazil and Klara Bü

in midfield. Up front, Damnjanović replaced Schüller.

Comfortable first half

Bayern Women started well and went ahead early on. After Sydney Lohmann had been denied by Jule Baum, the Sand goalkeeper could do nothing about Damnjanović's finish three minutes later. Pernille Harder played in the striker and the ex-Sand player netted against her former club. The visitors continued to dominate and doubled their lead in the 26th minute, when Stanway found the bottom left corner from the edge of the box.

Four goals in second half

It was a similar picture in the second half, although the home side did venture forward a bit more to begin with. However, any Sand hopes were dashed in the 58th minute, when Dallmann hammered the ball into the net from about 20 metres out. The German champions weren't done there and led 4-0 after 69 minutes, substitute Gwinn scoring from captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir's assist. Fellow substitute Zigiotti then made it 5-0 with her first goal in a red shirt, before Schüller's header from a free kick completed the scoring. There were also reasons to celebrate for Weronika Zawistowska and 16-year-old Luzie Zähringer, who made their first-team debuts for Bayern.

Kick-off at the stadium at the FC Bayern Campus is at 18:30 CEST. That's followed by another home fixture against TSG Hoffenheim on Monday 23 September at 18:00 CEST.
