FC Bayern Women held by Eintracht Frankfurt

FC Bayern Women were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Eintracht Frankfurt on Monday evening. Pernille Harder had given Bayern a first-half lead in front of a Campus crowd that included board member for sport Max Eberl, before Nicole Anyomi levelled for the visitors. The draw on Matchday 8 leaves the Munich Frauen top of the table ahead of Wolfsburg by virtue of one goal more scored head with the pair tied on 19 points, followed by Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen (both 17).

Important message

‘Together we can make great things happen’ this is the maxim of the German Cancer Aid organisation (Krebshilfe). To mark the organisation's 50th anniversary, Bayern’s women sent out an important message before kick-off as part of the campaign matchday, holding up a banner to once again raise awareness for the fight against cancer together with the Eintracht players.

Lohmann, Damnjanovic and Grohs miss out

Sydney Lohmann was unavailable due to a knee issue. Jovana Damnjanovic also missed out as she continued to suffer with the effects of her collision in the Wolfsburg game, while Maria Luisa Grohs didn’t recover in time following her tonsil operation.

Linda Dallmann made her 150th appearance for Bayern against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Harder with half-time lead

The game got off to a blistering start as the Campus as Bayern were awarded a penalty for handball against Sara Doorsoun inside three minutes. However, Georgia Stanway saw her spot-kick saved by goalkeeper Stina Johannes, with the rebound being put over the bar.

Things were pretty even but intense after that, although it was the hosts who had the better chances. Harder fired narrowly wide when teed up by Linda Dallmann in the 23rd minute, while Johannes was forced into a save from Klara Bühl’s 20-yard effort. The breakthrough finally came shortly after the half-hour mark when Pernille turned in Bühl’s corner for her fifth goal of the campaign.

Pegged back in second half

Alexander Straus’s team remained on the front foot after the restart, with Alara Şehitler having the chance to double the advantage when found by Dallmann. At the other end, captain Glódis Viggósdóttir produced a brilliantly timed sliding challenge to deny Laura Freigang a free shot at goal inside the box.

However, Eintracht did soon get their equaliser when Anyomi ran onto a long ball and finished. Bayern pushed in the closing stages for a winner, but it ended all squad at the Campus to conclude Matchday 8.
