5-0 at the Campus: Resounding home win for FCB Women against Jena

  • Win at the FC Bayern Campus
  • Schüller with a brace
  • First FCB appearance for Ana Guzmán

FC Bayern Women beat FC Carl Zeiss Jena 5-0 in the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga on Sunday afternoon. In front of her home crowd, Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir got the opener for the Munich side with a header in the 19th minute. Ten minutes later, Klara Bühl doubled the lead to 2-0, which was the score at half-time. After the break, the goals were slow in coming after numerous chances, before Lea Schüller (80‘) and Jovana Damnjanović (82’) both scored within a two-minute spell. Schüller wrapped up the 5-0 win with a fifth in the third minute of stoppage time.

With ten matchdays played, the Bayern women are level with Eintracht Frankfurt on 23 points in third place in the table. VfL Wolfsburg are in first place with 25 points.

Klara Bühl scored her fourth goal of the season in the match against FC Carl Zeiss Jena.

Straus: "Happy with the performance“

Alexander Straus: "We played a really good game, let the ball run and created a lot of chances. That's very positive, because that's not been the case in every game. We also have to be self-critical in that respect, because we always want to drive ourselves forward. The final score definitely reflects the game and the team's performance. I'm happy with the performance and the result."

Working together to fight blood cancer

Open your mouth. Insert the swab. Become a donor! At the home match against FC Carl Zeiss Jena, the German Bone Marrow Donor Centre (DKMS) was on hand with a blood typing campaign on the forecourt of the FC Bayern Campus. The DKMS is an international non-profit organisation that promotes the registration of stem cell donors to enable blood cancer patients worldwide to be cured with a stem cell transplant. After several FCB players had already registered this week, visitors were able to take advantage of the opportunity to register as a potential donor free of charge on the day of the match.

Three changes to the starting XI

Maria Luisa Grohs will be out for the foreseeable future due to being diagnosed with a malignant tumour. The FCB goalkeeper has sent a personal video message to fans. Ena Mahmutovic replaced her in the starting XI. Other changes from the previous UWCL match against Vålerenga saw Carolin Simon and Julia Zigiotti start in place of Giulia Gwinn and Sarah Zadrazil.

Dominant first half

The FCB Women made a dominant start to the match. As early as the third minute, Tuva Hansen played a beautiful pin-point pass to striker Pernille Harder, who was making her 100th Bundesliga appearance. However, the home side's first shot on goal could only find its way into the arms of Jena keeper Janning. The Reds kept up the pressure on the visitors' goal with some good spells of possession, and the net should have been bulging after a double chance from Weronika Zawistowska and Georgia Stanway in the 14th minute. With 19 minutes on the clock, Stanway then won a sprint down the right flank, and her cross found Glódís Viggósdóttir, who headed in her tenth goal for FC Bayern to put the Reds 1-0 up. The Munich side then got a deserved second on 29 minutes when Klara Bühl scored on the turn to make it 2-0. Shortly before half-time, it was Viggósdóttir who rose once more with a header on target, but goalkeeper Janning and the crossbar prevented Bayern from getting a third.

Intense second half

After the break, Jena got in the first shot on goal, which Bayern goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic was able to save. The Reds continued to create numerous chances. In the 58th minute, Zawistowska missed the chance to add another goal following a cross from Caro Simon. Simon herself was denied twice by midfielder Gaißer, who was able to block both a free-kick and the follow-up shot from the FCB defender. An impressive scissors-kick from Georgia Stanway also failed to find its way into the net. Then, in a two-minute spell, substitute Lea Schüller scored in the 80th minute, followed by Jovana Damnjanović in the 82nd. Schüller made it 5-0 in the third minute of stoppage time.
