- Home win clinched
- Club record set
- Red against racism
The FC Bayern Women have set a club record and sit unchallenged at the top of the table. Coach José Barcala's team are simply unstoppable and celebrated their 18th win in a row in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon. The Munich side won 2-0 against 1. FC Nürnberg on matchday 22. After a goalless first half, Edna Imade (46’) gave them the lead at the FC Bayern Campus stadium. Natalia Padilla Bidas (80') then sealed the win in the closing stages.
Thanks to the home win, the league leaders have extended their lead over their nearest rivals VfL Wolfsburg to an impressive 14 points, at least temporarily. However, the Wolves have played one game less.

FCB Women send out a strong message
The FC Bayern Women made a clear statement at the FC Bayern Campus today: Under the motto "Red against racism", our players ran on with a special banner, wore warm-up shirts with a clear message and there were several actions against marginalisation and discrimination at the stadium. President Herbert Hainer "Respect, diversity and open-mindedness should not be buzzwords, but should characterise our shared existence and our everyday lives. There is no space for discrimination of any kind in our society. For us at FC Bayern, 'Red against racism' means taking a stand."

First half with few chances
The Munich side got off to a good start, but the deep-lying FC Nürnberg side made life difficult for the home side. It took until the 13th minute for Imade to have a shot from a corner kick from Carolin Simon but goalkeeper Lourdes Romero dived to clear the ball from the bottom right-hand corner and steered it out of the goal with her foot. While the Bayern Women clearly dominated the game, the visitors repeatedly posed a threat in counter-attacks, but Maria Luisa Grohs and the Munich defence stood firm. Shortly before the break, a free-kick from Simon (37’) went just over the bar, before Edna missed the chance to net the opener a minute later with a header from a Barbara Dunst cross.

Impressive second half
The start to the second half could not have gone better. Firstly, FCN keeper Romero turned a header from substitute Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir onto the crossbar, but when Lara Meroni tried to clear the ball, it hit Edna's head and she scored from close range to make it 1-0. A few minutes later, Momoko Tanikawa hit a shot just over the target. And in minute 63, it was Viggósdóttir again who posed a threat in her 150th game for the FCB Women, but her header from a free-kick by Arianna Caruso hit the bar. Padilla Bidas then rounded off the scoring ten minutes from time. After a fine pass from Dunst, the Pole netted from close range to make the final score 2-0.

Crucial weeks
The reigning double champions continue to go from strength to strength. The big showdown on the European stage will be played at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday, 1 April, when Manchester United come to Munich for the quarter-final second leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
