Latest news from Bayern

After a mid-season training camp in Seville, the Munich Frauen are ready to resume their campaign on all three fronts this year. They played one friendly during their time in Spain, beating Swiss side Young Boys Women 7-0.

Bayern have spent the winter break in second place in the Bundesliga, behind leaders Eintracht Frankfurt only on goal difference. They won their final three league outings of 2024 and are now unbeaten in their last six in the competition. Captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir and her team beat Turbine Potsdam 2-0 in their last competitive outing.

Recap the team’s training camp in Spain:

Opponent: RB Leipzig

Leipzig are in sixth place after 12 games of only their second season in the Bundesliga. They have won two of their last five matches, most recently beating Köln 3-1 to climb up into the top half of the table. Jonas Stephan’s side played two friendlies against clubs from Prague during the break, beating Sparta 7-1 and drawing 1-1 with Slavia.

Bayern were caught cold in the reverse fixture, with Vanessa Fudalla putting Leipzig ahead inside three minutes at the Campus. But Linda Dallmann and Georgia Stanway turned things around before the break. Braces apiece for Klara Bühl and Lea Schüller then brought Straus’s team a 6-2 win in their first home game of the campaign.

Team news

Straus has to prepare his team for the first competitive fixture of 2025 without Lena Oberdorf (knee ligaments), Katharina Naschenweng (knee joint) and Stanway (knee ligaments). Sarah Zadrazil is also sidelined for the coming weeks with a hamstring injury. Magou Doucouré is still working on her fitness and not yet available. Goalkeeper Mala Grohs has returned to training but will first have some playing time with the second team.

Pre-match quotes

Alexander Straus: “We had a very good mid-season camp in Spain and are ready for the second half. It’s now about performing in the games to come. We’re facing a very good team in Leipzig that has progressed a lot in the last two years. They also have two very good goalscorers in Vanessa Fudalla and Giovanna Hoffmann who we need to watch out for.”

Sydney Lohmann: “We’re excited to get going again. We’re facing a very young and brave team in Leipzig who have dangerous players in the final third. They have the quality to play their way through tight spaces. We want to play with confidence and show from the start that we’ll be taking all three points back home with us.”
